Ribera del Duero Winery

Bodegas Peñafalcón is a winery with a long family tradition, currently headed by Casimiro, his son and his wife.

THE WINERY

OUR HISTORY

The origins of the winery date back to the ancestors of the current owners, who made their wine in the old winepresses, which date back to the 17th century. The culture of wine and the love for the creation of these elegant wines has been passed from generation to generation until it reached Casimiro de Peñafalcón, who made his wine artisanally and in small quantities every year and enjoyed it with family and friends.

In 2000, Casimiro made his dream come true and began to produce and market his wines under the Ribera del Duero designation of origin, in Peñafiel, naming the winery with the historical name of Peñafalcón, which is what this town was called in the 11th century. and remembering the ‘Rhymed Chronicle of Mío Cid’s poem’: Rodrigo won the battle, God be praised, until Peñafalcón, where Peñafiel is called!! Where Peñafalcón is renamed Peñafiel.

OUR

PHILOSOPHY

The philosophy of Bodegas Peñafalcón is based on taking careful care of the vineyards, doing artisanal work, not adding herbicides but digging the gap by hand, using sulfur, intertwining the shoots and doing green pruning, using sheep manure fertilizers such as in the old days, like our grandparents did. During pruning, the shoots are crushed to provide a greater contribution of organic matter to the soil. The winery’s own vineyards are well positioned on slopes and the soils are stony calcareous. Part of them are in sunny areas, so the ripening is extraordinary. Organic vineyards as a conscience since always.

OUR SUCCESS

THE SUM OF SMALL DETAILS

The careful care of the vineyard and the entire production process results in very natural and ecological wines at a conscious level. High quality wines with a peculiar touch of personality and mastery that have been able to adapt to the passage of time.

This effort results in a wine with unique aromas and flavor, endorsed by more than 56 Super–Gold and Gold Awards, nationally and internationally. At Bodegas Peñafalcón their specialty is Peñafalcón Crianza, with two years in barrel; the Peñafalcón Reserva, with three years in barrel; the Peñafalcón Selected Harvest, two to three years in barrel.

New in the ‘delicatessen wine’ market are the wines called Peñafalcón Siglo XI, so as not to forget its history. Peñafalcón Siglo XI Crianza with 26 months in barrel, Peñafalcón Siglo XI Selected Harvest between one and four years in barrel and Peñafalcón Siglo XI Gran Reserva with 5 years in barrel.

This range of wines comes from vineyards located on high slopes with stony calcareous soils and selected grapes, as well as a special production with hand-bazuqueos, natural yeasts from the vineyard and an exhaustive dedication to their delicate and careful resting in high-quality barrels during the indicated years. These are wines that are most in demand in foreign trade and the export figure reaches 70%, mainly to countries in Europe, Asia and the United States.

Our flagship, our identity are the wines with 5 years in the barrel, all of them awarded with Great International Gold, without forgetting our 14 year old that in its career has obtained 3 great golds internationally, being of great value to us given that it is the vintage in which one of our children was born, and at a private level we continue to conserve another barrel from the year 97, when another of our children was born.
